Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automobile manufacturer, is set to expand its lineup by introducing a Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variant for the recently launched fourth-generation Swift. This move is part of the company’s strategy to cater to the growing demand for more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles in the Indian market.
New Engine and Specifications
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG comes equipped with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine, which delivers 82hp and 112Nm of torque. This engine marks a significant upgrade as it is the first of its kind to be featured in a Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India. The new Swift is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).
CNG Variant Details
In keeping with the tradition of offering CNG variants across its Arena lineup, Maruti Suzuki will soon roll out a Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG option. This development will make the Swift the first car to feature the new Z12E engine in a CNG configuration. While the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variant will experience a slight dip in power and torque outputs compared to its petrol counterpart, it will offer significant savings in fuel costs and a reduction in carbon emissions.
The CNG-powered Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is expected to be available exclusively with the manual transmission option, maintaining the same ease of driving and efficiency that customers have come to expect from Maruti Suzuki.
Pricing and Efficiency
The new Swift currently ranges from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variants are anticipated to cost an additional Rs 90,000 to Rs 95,000 over the corresponding petrol models. This price adjustment is in line with Maruti Suzuki’s other CNG offerings, reflecting the added benefits of fuel economy and lower running costs.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the petrol Swift delivers impressive figures: 24.80 kmpl with the manual gearbox and a best-in-class 25.75 kmpl with the automatic transmission. The Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is projected to exceed these numbers, offering an estimated mileage of over 32 km/kg, making it one of the most efficient cars in its segment.

Market Competition
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG will compete directly with other popular CNG models such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago, both of which have already established a strong presence in the market. With the introduction of the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG, Maruti Suzuki aims to strengthen its position in the compact car segment by offering a blend of performance, efficiency, and eco-friendliness.
Maruti Suzuki’s decision to introduce a Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG variant underscores its commitment to providing versatile and sustainable mobility solutions to Indian consumers. The official launch and detailed variant lineup for the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG are eagerly awaited by prospective buyers and automotive enthusiasts alike.
