Guruvayur:The High Court has refused to interfere with a petition seeking to stop the Illam Nira Puja of the Guruvayoor Temple from being held below the Kodimaram this time. The Illam Nira puja will be held at 6:18 tomorrow morning.
A Division Bench stated that the Devaswom Board’s decision to perform the puja at Kodimaram considered the interests of the deity and the Tantri’s opinion. Therefore, the court cannot intervene.
Devaswom Standing Counsel TK Vipindas informed the court that the decision to conduct the puja at Kodimaram was made considering the convenience of devotees.
PC Krishnan of Chennas Mana and others filed the petition demanding that the puja namaskara be held in the mandapam. In the counter affidavit filed in court, the Devaswom stated that the petitioners are trying to create unnecessary controversies and the new decision will help avoid temple congestion.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Anil K Narendran and Harishankar V Menon heard the case in a special sitting today. This change will allow more devotees to have darshan of Guruvayurappa after performing Mahalakshmi Puja. Officials also said that the waiting time for devotees in the queue will be reduced.
