The search for Arjun, a native of Kozhikode, who went missing after a landslide in Karnataka’s Shiroor, has entered sixth day. The army will reach the disaster site today for rescue operations. A 60-member army team will reach the disaster site from Belagavi. They are expected to reach by 9.30 am. Unfavorable weather conditions are making the rescue operations difficult.
Rescue operations using earth-moving machines are currently being carried out at a location where a radar signal was detected yesterday. Authorities hope that the lorry will be found at this spot. Bharat Benz authorities claim there is minimal chance of mud entering the vehicle. There is also hope that the engine of the lorry was still operational on the fourth day since the rescue operations began.
Relatives of Arjun have reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Suresh Gopi, and Kerala Chief Minister, requesting the deployment of the army for the rescue operation.
On Saturday, Arjun’s family members responded that they had no faith in the current rescue operation and asked the army to come. Due to heavy rain, the search which was supposed to continue till 10 pm on Saturday was called off at 8:30 pm. It is still raining in the area on Sunday morning.
A team of Karnataka SDRF, Kerala Motor Vehicle Department officials, Kerala police, Arjun’s relative Jithin and others have gone to the accident spot to search. There were indications that the location of the lorry in which Arjun was believed to be trapped was found on the radar, but the authorities have not confirmed this yet. The team is continuing the search by removing the soil from the place where the signal was received. No information is available on how deep the lorry is or how long it will take to pull it out. However, the rescue team believes that there is a possibility.
