P. Jayachandran will be presented with Drishya’s “Bhavageeti” award tomorrow

Guruvayoor: “Drishya”, a group of around 100 volunteers who have been inactive in Gurupavanapuri for the past four decades, is making progress in Guruvayoor through social interaction and implementation of various projects in the field of arts and cultural services. Last year as a part of the service project, the ongoing philanthropic sustainable project “Jeevanam” was inaugurated by providing free dialysis facility to benefit many people.

Then we are indebted to the most benevolent individuals and institutions in Guruvayur and outside for its continued success by providing free oxygen concentrators for inpatients and providing medical assistance to needy patients. We are preparing for the implementation of the third phase of Jeevanam project. The vision aims to implement more oxygen concentrators and dialysis machines in this phase. As part of this, two oxygen concentrators will be handed over to Pookkod and Thaikkad palliative units under Primary Health Centers of Guruvayur Municipality at the ceremony.

As part of the cultural program, Drishya is preparing with a different program this year. To honor Malayalam singer Shri P Jayachandran with Drishya “Bhavgeethi” award and to present a visual musical performance called Munjail Mungi Thorthi featuring renowned singers Shri Kallara Gopan, Edapal Viswan and Preeta Kannan, backed by the Thrissur Nadopasana Orchestra, based on his songs.

Inauguration of the above 2 programs will be held on Saturday 4th January 2025 at 4.30 pm at Indira Gandhi Town Hall, Guruvayur Municipal Corporation. The third phase of the “Jeevanam” project was inaugurated by the Chairman of Bahu Municipal Council Mr. M. Krishnadas will officiate. Renowned Malayalam film director Mr. Kamal will inaugurate the Bhadra Deepam after dipping into the cultural program Manjala. The Chief Guest, Former Chief Secretary and Lyricist Shri K Jayakumar, Vice Chancellor of Malayalam University, will felicitate IAS Bhava singer Shri Jayachandran with the Bhava Geethi Award. Cochin Shipyard Chairman – Managing Director Mr. Madhu S Nair, renowned music critic Mr. Ravi Menon, Kerala Expatriates Welfare Board Chairman and music connoisseur Mr. KV Abdul Khader Ex MLA, prominent industrialist Dr. V. Vijayakumar, Ward Councilor Mr. K. P. A. Rasheed etc. There will be special guests.The program is limited by the free pass.

Sri P. Jayachandran is a Malayalam vocalist and a unique voice in the Malayalam music genre. He was born in 1944 in Ravipuram, Ernakulam district, the third of 5 children of Ravivarma Kochanian Tampuran and Paliyath Subhadra Kunjamma. In 1973, he married Lalita, a native of Thrissur. Lakshmi and Dinanath are children. His artistic career started with many awards in Mridanga reading and Lalitha song in the state school arts festivals.In 1958 Yuva Janotsava, his contemporary Sri Yesudas won the award for the best classical singer while the award in Mridanga reading went to Sri Jayachandran. Shri Jayachandran won the National Award for Best Playback Singer once and won the Kerala State Award 5 times. In 2001, he was honored with the Swaralaya Kairali Yesudas Award. He won the JC Daniel award in 2021 and has sung many movie songs in Malayalam Tamil Telugu and Kannada Hindi languages. Shri P Jayachandran, who has immortalized the song beginning with Manjalayil Mungi Torthi, which is always loved by Malayalis, is being honored with Drishya Bhavgeethi Award.
