Rare Indian currencies to be auctioned in London; The notes tell the story of the 1918 naval attack

New Delhi: Rare Indian notes that survived the 1918 ship attack to be auctioned in London. Two Indian currencies of Rs 10 will be included in the May 29 auction. These Indian notes are also featured in the world’s rare notes auction.

The notes of SS Shirala, which went from Mumbai to London in 1918, are up for auction. In addition to notes, the ship also had weapons, wine, etc. But on the way, the ship was wrecked by a German U-boat missile attack and sank in the sea. The ship had bank notes signed by the authorities and unsigned. A large number of these were shipwrecked on the Irish coast. The authorities then recovered and destroyed these and printed new notes in their place. These were bank notes printed on May 25, 1918. That the notes have consecutive serial numbers and that they have not been damaged by exposure to salty seawater
