‘We’re not opening bars, we’re opening schools’; 297 bars were started in the state during the Left regime

Thiruvananthapuram: A huge increase in the number of bars started during the Left government rule in the state. 297 new bars were licensed while 475 beer and wine parlors were renewed. 801 such bars are functioning in the state.

But the crisis in launching Bevco Outlets continues. Protests against opening outlets in residential areas are pulling back the Beverages Corporation. 277 outlets are currently functioning.

There were 720 bars in the state during the UDF government. When the 1st Pinarayi government came to power in 2016, there were 29 five star bars and 813 beer wine parlours. 442 hotels starting from three star have been given renewed license to open bar. 200 licenses were newly allotted.
